WHAT IS CHIP SEAL?
A proven surface treatment — done right
Chip seal is a surface treatment that applies a layer of liquid asphalt binder directly on the road, immediately followed by a layer of aggregate chips that are rolled in and compacted. The result is a durable, skid-resistant surface that protects the underlying road base and extends pavement life at a fraction of the cost of full asphalt paving.
THE PROCESS
How chip seal works
First, a distributor truck applies hot liquid asphalt binder evenly across the road surface. Immediately after, aggregate chips are spread over the binder and rolled in with a pneumatic roller to lock them in place.
The result is a textured, skid-resistant surface that seals the road from water infiltration and adds years of life to the underlying base — as a significantly lower cost than a full asphalt overlay.

WHY CHIP SEAL?
The smart choice for rural roads & large surfaces
Chip seal isn't right for every application — but when it is, nothing beats it for its value and performance.
Cost-effective
Chip seal costs significantly less than full asphalt paving while still delivering a durable, long-lasting surface. It's the go-to choice for municipalities and counties managing large road networks on a budget.
Durable & long-lasting
A properly applied chip seal adds 7-10 years of life to an existing road surface. It seals out water, resists UV damage, and stand up to heavy traffic and harsh Midwest winters.
Fast to apply
Chip seal can be applied quickly over large areas with minimal disruption to traffic. Roads are typically open within hours of application -- keeping communities moving.
